How To Crochet Harper The Hippo

Written Pattern:
Head

Ch 6

Starting from the second chain from hook sc 4, 3 sc in the last chain stitch, continue working around chain. Sc 3, 1 inc in the last stitch = 12

1 Inc, sc 3, 3 inc, sc 3, 2 inc = 18

Sc 1, 1 inc, sc 4, 1 inc, sc 1, 1 inc, sc 1, 1 inc, sc 4, 1 inc, sc 1, 1 inc = 24

Sc 2, 1 inc, sc 5, 1 inc, sc 2, 1 inc, sc 2, 1 inc, sc 5, 1 inc, sc 2, 1 inc = 30

Sc 3, 1 inc, sc 6, 1 inc, sc 3, 1 inc, sc 3, 1 inc, sc 6, 1 inc, sc 3, 1 inc = 36

Sc 4, 1 inc, sc 7, 1 inc, sc 4,1 inc, sc 4, 1 inc, sc 7, 1 inc, sc 4, 1 inc = 42

Sc around for 5 rows = 60

Stuff the head.

Next add eyelashes and the safety eyes (push the backings for the safety eyes through the neck moving any stuffing aside).

Body

Slip stitch to one of the side stitches on the head opening

Sc 1 in each st and 1 on each end = 18

Sc around for 2 rows = 18

*Sc 2, 1 inc* x 6 = 24

Sc around for 1 row = 24

*Sc 3, 1 inc* x 6 = 30

Sc around for 1 row = 30

*Sc 4, 1 inc* x 6 = 36

Sc around for 1 row = 36

*Sc 5, 1 inc* x 6 = 42

Sc around for 1 row = 42

*Sc 6, 1 inc* x 6 = 48

Sc around for 1 row = 48

*Sc 7, 1 inc* x 6 = 54

Sc around for 8 rows = 54

*Sc 7, 1 dec* x 6 = 48

Sc around for 1 row = 48

*Sc 6, 1 dec* x 6 = 42

Stuff the neck nice and firm so the head isn’t flopping around

Stuff the body nice and firm

Add some more stuffing if needed.

*1 dec* x 6 = 6

Cut the yarn leaving a long enough tail to stitch it closed, thread the yarn tail though the front loops of the last 6 st and pull tight to close, hide the yarn tail inside the body and cut off any extra.
