How To Crochet A Cute Heart Mushroom

Crochet heart mushrooms! What a super cute mini Valentine’s Day gift. They are also great for using up scrap yarn.

3 mm Crochet Hook


*Cotton Yarn: 100% cotton, 50 g (1.76 oz) / 115m (125 yd) Etsy

Stitches / abbreviations:
Sc = Single Crochet (Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)


Hdc = Half Double Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all three loops.)


Dc = Double Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)


Ss = Slip stitch (Insert hook, yarn over, pull through both stitch and loop on hook.)


Inc = Increase (2 stitches in same stitch)


Dec = Decrease (Insert hook into front loop of first stitch, Insert hook into front loop of second stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)


Blo = Back loop only


Flo = Front loop only


St = Stitch/stitches


Ch = Chain (Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook)

  • * repeat the pattern in-between the asterix X amount of times
  • = number of stitches at the end of the round
  • Work in continuous spiral; do not join your work at the end of the rounds unless stated.
  • This pattern uses US terminology.

Written Pattern:
Red yarn
1. Make a slipknot, ch 9, skip the last ch that you made and make 3 sc in the next ch, sc 2, skip 2 ch, sc 2, 3 sc in the last ch.

2. Turn your work so your working on the other side of the ch, sc 2, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc*, sc 2 = 16

3. 3 inc, sc 1, skip 2, sc 1, 3 inc, sc 3, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc*, sc 3 = 22

4. 4 inc, sc 2, skip 2, sc 2, 4 inc, sc 4, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc*, sc 4 = 30

5. 1 sc, 5 inc, sc 3, skip 2, sc 3, 5 inc, sc 6, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc*, sc 5 = 40


Cut your yarn leaving a long tail to stitch onto the stem.

White Yarn
1. Make a slipknot, ch 2, make 6sc in the first ch that you made, pull the tail tight = 6
2. *1 inc* x 6 = 12
3. *1 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 18
4. 1 row of sc in blo = 18
5-6. 2 rows of sc = 18
7. *7 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 16
8. *6 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 14
9. *5 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 12
10. 1 row of sc = 12

11. *4 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 10
12. *3 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 8
13-15. 3 rows of sc = 8
Stuff


16. *2 sc, 1 dec* x 2 = 6
17 *1 inc* x 6 = 12


18. Make 4 sc in the same st, sc 2, skip 2, sc 2, 4 sc in the same st, sc 2, ch 2, sc 2 = 16

19. 1 sc, 3 inc, sc 1, skip 2 st, sc 1, 3 inc, sc 3, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc* , sc 2 = 22

20. 1 sc, 4 inc, sc 2, skip 2, sc 2, 4 inc, sc 4, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc,* sc 3 = 30

21. 2 sc, 5 inc, sc 3, skip 2, sc 3, 5 inc, sc 6, in the ch 2 space make *1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc,* sc 4 = 40

Cut your yarn and hide the tail on the inside.
Cut a piece of white yarn and use your yarn needle to add some white spots to the top of the mushroom .
When your finished knot the two ends together on the underneath.
Place the red piece on top, use the red yarn tail to stitch the two pieces together.
