How To Crochet A Plum

This crochet plum is a great toy if your kids like playing shop like my daughter or add this crochet plum to your fruit bowl and see if anyone notices. While this pattern is available for free here on MummaJ Crochet, a PDF version is also available (low cost and print friendly!)

You will need:

Cotton Yarn


Yarn Needle


Scissors

Stuffing

2.5 mm Crochet Hook


*Cotton Yarn: 100% cotton, 50 g (1.76 oz) / 115m (125 yd) Etsy

Stitches / abbreviations:


Sc = Single Crochet (Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)


Hdc = Half Double Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all three loops.)


Dc = Double Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)


Ss = Slip stitch (Insert hook, yarn over, pull through both stitch and loop on hook.)


Inc = Increase (2sc in same stitch)


Dec = Decrease (Insert hook into front loop of first stitch, Insert hook into front loop of second stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)


Blo = Back loop only


Flo = Front loop only


St = Stitch/stitches


Ch = Chain (Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook)

  • * repeat the pattern in-between the asterix X amount of times
  • = number of stitches at the end of the round
  • Work in continuous spiral; do not join your work at the end of the rounds unless stated.
  • This pattern uses US terminology.

IMPORTANT!

Written Pattern:

Make a slipknot, ch 2, make 6sc in the first ch that you made, pull the tail tight = 6
*1 inc* x 6 = 12
*1 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 18
*2 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 24
Sc around for 1 row = 24
*3 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 30
Sc around for 1 row = 30

*4 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 36
Sc around for 1 row = 36
*5 sc, 1 inc* x 6 = 42
Sc around for 8 rows = 42
*5 sc, 1 dec* x 6 = 36
Sc around for 1 row = 36

*4 sc, 1 dec* x 6 = 30
Sc around for 1 row = 30
*3 sc, 1 dec* x 6 = 24
*2 sc, 1 dec* x 6 = 18
Stuff
*1 sc, 1 dec* x 6 = 12
*1 dec* x 6 = 6

Cut a extra long yarn tail, enough to stitch it closed and stitch around the plum a few times.


Thread the yarn through the front loops of each of the last 6 st, pull the tail tight.


Thread the yarn tail over one side of the plum and up center of the plum, squeeze the top and bottom of the plum and pull the yarn tail tight, thread the yarn over same side of the plum twice more.

Repeat this last step over the opposite side of the plum then make a knot to hold everything in place.

    Thanks for the pattern! I love it! Just wanted to let you know that at the end there seems to be a typo. To get the 12 stitches in the 17th row, I had to do (1sc, 1dec)*6, not 1dec*12.
