How To Crochet A Bee, UK Terms

These crochet bumble bees have been one of my most popular crochet toys patterns to date! you can make them with cotton yarn like I did or use a thick plushy yarn to make a bigger, softer bee ( you would just need to adjust your crochet hook size ). With this pattern you can make a cute small bee using a 3 mm crochet hook or make a larger bee by using a 5 mm crochet hook and two threads of yarn. *Cotton Yarn: 100% cotton, 50 g (1.76 oz) / 115m (125 yd) Etsy

Stitches /Abbreviations:

Dc = Double Crochet (Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)

Htc = Half Treble Crochet (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all three loops.)

Tr = Treble Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)

Dtr = Double Treble Crochet (Yarn over twice, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have four loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, Yarn over, pull through the next two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)

Yarn Needle

3 mm Crochet Hook


*Cotton Yarn: 100% cotton, 50 g (1.76 oz) / 115m (125 yd) Etsy

Stitches/Abbreviations:

Dc = Double Crochet (Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)

Htc = Half Treble Crochet (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all three loops.)

Tr = Treble Crochet (Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)

Dtr = Double Treble Crochet (Yarn over twice, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have four loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, Yarn over, pull through the next two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.)


Ss = Slip stitch (Insert hook, yarn over, pull through both stitch and loop on hook.)


Inc = Increase (2 stitches in same stitch)


Dec = Decrease (Insert hook into front loop of first stitch, Insert hook into front loop of second stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops, now you have 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops.)


Blo = Back loop only


Flo = Front loop only


St = Stitch/stitches


Ch = Chain (Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook)

Here is my pattern on how to crochet these very funny crochet calico cat bum coasters. The single color cat bum coasters are quick to make and great for beginners!
Please note: the multi colored cat bum coasters are a bit harder to make as you will be working with two colors at the same time but the pattern is exactly the same as the single color cat bum coasters.
